The Toronto Fall Home Show 2018 – ReCap

RENO & DECOR Magazine presented:“Design Intervention”

Kristiina Roosimaa – RENO & DECOR booth designer

I am grateful for Reno&Decor, who gave me a great opportunity to design their 2018 Fall Home Show booth.

In my perspective the booth was an absolute pearl at the show this year with its Scandinavian aesthetics and feel. I had a wonderful chance to work with a Danish furniture company Bo Concept Toronto and their team who sponsored the interior setting with furniture and accessories.

To my pleasant surprise the walls for the created room settings all came pre-prepped with my specific instructions for painting which was sponsored by Benjamin Moore. In my opinion it is a great platform for the designers and sponsors who make this happen a great opportunity to be seen.

Thank You again for the opportunity.

RENO & DECOR Magazine presented “Design Intervention”

Rebecca Hay – RENO & DECOR booth designer

I thoroughly enjoyed designing RENO & DECOR’s – Design Intervention booth this year for the National Home Show.

Inspired by lakeside living, the booth was a unique “cottagey” space with shiplap walls, comfortable and classy furnishings and great colourful decor items like handcrafted cottage themed pillows. The summer’s night sky mural and charming check bedroom walls added unique touches typical of a lux Muskoka retreat.

Thank you to all the wonderful people who came in to enjoy our little cottage and talk design!

Winners of the Contests:

  • The Velux skylight and installation – Maria T of Mississauga
  • A 2 hour in-home design consultation with Rebecca Hay – Bethany L of Toronto
  • A gift card and bench from UpCountry – Sandra S of Toronto

Rebecca Hay Designs – National Home Show/RENO & DECOR Booth inspired by classic and casual lakeside living.

Rebecca Hay Designs is pleased to announce we will be providing the design creation for the upcoming Design Intervention booth #4118 at the National Home Show.

Muskoka inspired and naturally nautical, I based the RENO & DECOR booth’s decor scheme on this classic summer home aesthetic. We have incoproated walls in painted white shiplap to add textural interest while creating a relaxed cottage living atmosphere. The crisp white walls will be balanced by the soft and varied wood tones of the furniture which was all selected from our furniture sponsor this year UpCountry and added in some fun custom hand printed pillows by Cottage Cloth which emphasize the nautical theme and easy going vibe.

We created these outdoor living spaces by adding a rich night sky mural provided by Ruth Baker Design and paired it with outdoor furnishings to simulate lakeside summer living. A custom “boathouse” bar was designed to create an outdoor entertaining zone, built by Pure Kitchens and paired with sleek black stone counters from Select Granite and a luxe faucet from Watermarks. In addition to comfortable indoor/outdoor living and entertaining, we wanted to include a bedroom vignette. With a buffalo check pattern created by Peacock Living, the walls are graphic, bold and fun.

The booth showcases a glimpse into lakeside living at it’s best.

Come visit me and the team while at the National Home Show this March and get design inspired!

On Monday, March 13 @ 2pm and Friday, March 16 @ 2pm – be sure to catch Rebecca on stage along with Kate Davidson and Linda Mazur as part of RENO & DECOR’s “Designer Panel”. The panel will be discussing “Realities Of A Reno”

Regardless of the size of your project or the footprint of your space, creating  a beautiful and luxurious aesthetic in our homes can be accomplished with a well laid out plan.  Style and luxury is not determined by the size of your space, but the design.  We can garner inspiration by all that we see, but realism is always necessary when renovating, not only about the space you’re working with but also your budget.  A good design can deliver all that your heart desires while creating for you a wonderfully luxurious, relaxing and inviting home that reflects your individuality and needs for years to come.

If you’re considering an upcoming renovation, join GTA designers Linda Mazur, Rebecca Hay, Kate Davidson at the National Home Show stage, where this panel of designers will be discussing how to make the most of your upcoming home renovations without compromising on luxury, style or functionality.  They will take you through the key aspects of renovating, share their top renovation strategies as well as fave kitchen, bath and home products to consider including in your homes in 2018.  Get inspired and reno ready in 2018!

BOOTH DESIGNER

A word from Terry Edward Briceland:

“Our obsession is to straddle the fence between mainstream and obscure, blur the lines of masculine and feminine and fuse the dignified with the ridiculous. If it doesn’t evoke emotion or debate, we haven’t done our job or achieved our goal.”

Does he look familiar to you?  He should.  With over 15 years of experience, you have either seen him out and about in Toronto or on your TV screen on shows like ‘Take This House & Sell It!’, ‘Rooms That Rock’, ‘Design Interns’, ‘Disaster D.I.Y.’, ‘Movie Style’, ‘Cityline’, ‘The Marilyn Denis Show’, ‘Divine Design’ and ‘Candice Tells All’.  Some of his designs have also been in Home Décor magazines like ‘RENO & DECOR’, ‘Canadian Home Trends’, ‘House and Home’ and ‘Style At Home.’  And who could forget the 3-page interview in ‘Sew News Magazine’ where he revealed that he sews in his underwear while listening to loud music.

National Home Show 2017 – ReCap

The Reno and Decor booth for the National Home show was a wonderful opportunity to have visitors to the show experience two very different colour pallets and to visually get the answers to questions they often struggle with at home.  Each side was like two separate pages of the magazine but each designed and styled beautifully.

The ideas of good design are consistent regardless of whether a homeowner wishes to like in that colour palette.  Being able to work with a variety of attendees of the “Design Intervention” workshops in an environment that often exemplified the answers to challenges was amazingly helpful.

The caliber of questions and the preparation that went into the questions, made it very clear that many many people  can use the assistance of a design professional, regardless of the size of the project.  It was a wonderful collection of extremely talented design professionals we are proud to call colleagues and friends.  This was a success for the magazine, for the consumers and for the design professionals who worked on the space and with those consumers.

Master Ensuite & Powder Room Renovations by DE5IGN STUDIO

Latest News

Master Ensuite & Powder Room Renovations by DE5IGN STUDIO

The owners, Patricia Lovett-Reid, the chief financial commenter for CTV and her husband Jim Reid approached us to redesign their master ensuite bathroom and powder room. The building is only a few years old however, the spaces were starting to look a bit tired and contained material selected by the builder. The client’s project requirements were to provide more storage for their toiletries, proper lighting for makeup application and a shower with a rainhead above. Not only that, but a space that would be cohesive with the other spaces in their home. As well as a space that would be contemporary, abstract and international.

We solved the storage issue by designing a custom white floating vanity with lighting integrated underneath. This vanity has four drawers with no handles to create a minimalistic appearance, two on each side, with dividers inside for compartmentalizing ones items. Sitting on top of the vanity we chose a white Cesearstone countertop with two undermount porcelain basins. Instead of having the faucets on the countertop we thought it would be better installed on the wall to create more room on the countertop. Directly above in line with the edges of the vanity, is one long brightly backlit mirror that gives off enough lighting for make-up application. Then there is the seamless white porcelain flooring that resembles marble, leading into the walk-in shower with a rainhead above. Just outside the shower, all the flooring is heated so you never have to step out of a warm shower onto cold tile. Inside the shower we have a shower niche clad in mosaic, a handheld spray and a linear drain along the wall. To enlarge the space and make it appear brighter, we decided to use long and narrow white porcelain tile on all four walls. This tile is made to replicate the look of marble. There are four different types of finishes on the porcelain wall tile to create interest. Some are matte, some are textured and others are polished. In regards to the bathtub, we intended to have a freestanding tub however, we couldn’t move the drain and therefore, clad the existing tub in Cesearstone.

In addition, to the master ensuite bathroom, the client wanted to upgrade their powder room. This space is sure to impress any guest that comes over, with the textured wall covering that resembles linen, white hexagon mosaic floor tile and a floating white vanity with lighting underneath. The powder room has a custom vanity with the same white Cesearstone countertop as seen in the master ensuite bathroom. The only difference is that we ran a piece of slab above the countertop/behind the wall mounted faucet to protect the surrounding wallpaper from moisture. Directly above we placed a backlit mirror which gives off the perfect lighting for makeup application. Both spaces are equipment with water efficient toilets and chrome finishes.

It is obvious from first glance that exquisite craftsmanship has gone into its creation and now our clients and their guests can enjoy the newly renovated and designed spaces.
