The 2019 Toronto Fall Home Show

As fall brings changes to the weather, it also inspires us to make improvements in our homes. Whether you’re looking to do a big kitchen renovation, a small bathroom revamp or convert your laneway into a livable space, the 2019 Toronto Fall Home Show will help make this a reality.

With more than three decades of experience helping homeowners, condo dwellers and renters restructure, reorganize and restyle their spaces, this year’s show is set to once again bring the best experts to the GTA.

The 2019 Toronto Fall Home Show is a source for consumers to connect with the right people and find the right solutions for their living space (even ones to help you get rid of ghosts).

Here’s a peek at what will be featured:

Tiny Village

With rising real estate prices, there’s a tiny movement happening in Toronto. Small space living is becoming more of a reality for most people, with an increase in small condos, container homes and even laneway/infill housing. There are 47,000 lots on laneways that exist today, which can provide homeowners ample opportunities to supplement their income. Still, small space living doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice style. The Tiny Village brings together the best of small space design, with units from True North Tiny Home and Eva Lanes.

Bad reno or paranormal activity?

For the first year ever, the Toronto Fall Home Show is bringing its very own paranormal activity expert, so you can figure out if the creaks in your floorboards are just your pipes… or if they’re ghosts! Chat with paranormal investigator Glenn Laycock for tips on what to do if you have an unwanted guest from beyond in your home, or take a Ghost Walk through the haunted Horse Palace.

Designer Pumpkin Patch

Ditch your plastic Halloween decor for chic and stylish pumpkins to give curb appeal a whole new meaning, with tips from the exquisite Designer Pumpkin Patch. Let designer Nicholas Rosaci inspire your own posh pumpkin design, make one yourself or purchase a pre-styled option, with all proceeds going to the SickKids Foundation.

Kitchen stage

The kitchen is the focal point of a home, and the 2019 Toronto Fall Home Show will be no different. Sit back and enjoy some of the city’s top chefs cooking up a storm on the kitchen stage and pick up tips from several expert speakers, including Ramsin Khachi, Marie Kondo Way expert Effy Nicopoulos, Rebecca Hay, Emmanuel Belliveau and Chef Christopher Woods.

Home Hardware Here’s How Centre

If you’re getting ready for a DIY project and want to learn a few skills or just don’t know where to start, stop by the Home Hardware Here’s How Centre. Here, you’ll get hands-on advice and practical tips from fan favourites such as Canada’s Handyman Shawn Monteith, Jordan Spear and, new at this year’s show, Mark Rason.

Project Jump Starter

Presented by RenoMark, this show feature will give you a one-on-one professional consultation, guiding you on where to start with your renovation and give you all the tools you need for success. Check out more than 100 award-winning, quality projects to get inspired for your next renovation.

The Toronto Fall Home Show runs from Oct. 4 to 6 at The Enercare Centre. For more information visit the website.

The Toronto Fall Home Show 2018 – ReCap

RENO & DECOR Magazine presented:“Design Intervention”

Kristiina Roosimaa – RENO & DECOR booth designer

I am grateful for Reno&Decor, who gave me a great opportunity to design their 2018 Fall Home Show booth.

In my perspective the booth was an absolute pearl at the show this year with its Scandinavian aesthetics and feel. I had a wonderful chance to work with a Danish furniture company Bo Concept Toronto and their team who sponsored the interior setting with furniture and accessories.

To my pleasant surprise the walls for the created room settings all came pre-prepped with my specific instructions for painting which was sponsored by Benjamin Moore. In my opinion it is a great platform for the designers and sponsors who make this happen a great opportunity to be seen.

Thank You again for the opportunity.

The National Home Show Continues to Meld Home and Design

by Dena Gouweloos

“Okay Google, make me some coffee.”

Imagine a morning where you didn’t have to roll out of bed, struggle to locate your slippers, shuffle to the kitchen and to painstakingly make yourself a cup of coffee just to get motivated in the morning. What if you could make a freshly-brewed pot from the comfort of your bed? Or, clean the house without having to lift a mop and getting your hands dirty? Or change the channel without a 15-minute search for the ever-elusive remote?

You can see why the concept of a hands-free, tech-filled home is appealing, but did you know it is also possible? Homes are getting “smarter,” more efficient and, above all, with small upgrades, new technology and connected appliances, homes are now reflecting our lifestyles and needs like never before.

“Tech-integrated homes are the way of the future,” says Denise Hayward, show manager for the National Home Show, presented by RE/MAX and co-located with Canada Blooms. “Connecting our living spaces through voice-activated controls and creating self-cleaning rooms are things we once thought only possible in sci-fi movies, but the reality is that it’s easier than ever a turn your space into a handsfree smart home.”

From automatic environment monitoring to voice-controlled everything, our homes have become an extension of our on-the-go lifestyles. The invention of home-automation systems like Google Home and Amazon Echo have revolutionized the way we live, with the option to integrate A.I. such as ‘Alexa’ and ‘Siri’ into everything from our kitchen appliances, thermostats, TVs, garage doors and much more. Gone are the days of coming home to a freezing cold house or forgetting your grocery list at home – press a button and the contents of your fridge are accessible at your fingertips.

March 9 to 18, 2018

Enercare Centre
Exhibition Place, 100 Princes’ Boulevard

“New tech adds an unprecedented level of convenience to the way we live, order food and even shop, so it seems fitting to access these tools in our homes,” adds Hayward. “Whether it’s a simple addition of a no-touch faucet to help keep hands germ-free and clean, or as complex as a new fridge with built-in Wi-Fi capabilities that sends a text when you’re low on milk, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come and how smoothly and seamlessly these new tools can be integrated into the design of your home.”

While we’ve yet to reach a Jetsons-level of high-tech furniture and conveyor belt floorboards, it’s hard to believe that total home automation isn’t the end goal for developers. Technology and innovation companies are continuing to build and improve upon connectivity and automation in household appliances, and consumers across every market are eager to discover what’s next for their homes.

The trend isn’t going away anytime soon, either—contractors, interior designers, builders and trade shows are featuring more home tech than ever before as new connections and hands-free tools are created. You can see how integrated tech and home design come together seamlessly at the Best Buy feature at the 2018 National Home Show.

Toronto Fall Home Show 2017 – ReCap

teb Interiors Inc. had the distinct honour of designing this years RENO & DECOR Design Intervention booth at the 2017 Fall Home Show and I have to say that it was an exhilarating experience.  It was an amazing creative outlet for us to help bend minds into thinking outside of the box. We have always been about trying to expand people’s thoughts and take them beyond their comfort zone and to not have so much fear about what other people will think of your space.

Allow your personality to shine through and let everyone else see it and embrace it.  You’re worth it!

Of course, this was not a one man show.  First of all, HOMES Publishing Group allowed us full freedom on whatever we could conjure up without any road blocks, so that opened the flood gates.  We received an overwhelming amount of support from some of our suppliers like, Rustik Design who, on top of enchanting the booth walls with his own artwork, custom made all the little skull corner pieces that complimented all the panel moulding that wrapped the booth.  Speaking of the panel moulding, Metrie is now our favourite ‘go to’ for moulding and doors.  They were more than willing to shower us with all the baseboard and panel moulding we needed to accomplish our goals.  The we needed to fill the space with furniture so in true fashion, our close friends at Design Republic stepped up to the plate and gave us anything and everything we needed.  Digging those rustic and industrial light fixtures?  Those are the brain children of Adam Fullerton, make sure you check out his Instagram, especially the custom ceiling light fixture he created out of a vintage Drum kit.  But I have to say that the one thing that reached out and lured people to the booth had to be the custom wallpapers.  Especially the Wonder Woman vignette.  Ruth Baker Design and teb Interiors Inc. are a force not to be reckoned with when it comes to creating outstanding custom wallpapers and murals.  I double dog dare you to argue that point.

Was it exhausting?  Hell, yeah.  Would we do it again?  Abso-freaking-lutely.  You may just see us again sooner than you think.

National Home Show 2017 – ReCap

The Reno and Decor booth for the National Home show was a wonderful opportunity to have visitors to the show experience two very different colour pallets and to visually get the answers to questions they often struggle with at home.  Each side was like two separate pages of the magazine but each designed and styled beautifully.

The ideas of good design are consistent regardless of whether a homeowner wishes to like in that colour palette.  Being able to work with a variety of attendees of the “Design Intervention” workshops in an environment that often exemplified the answers to challenges was amazingly helpful.

The caliber of questions and the preparation that went into the questions, made it very clear that many many people  can use the assistance of a design professional, regardless of the size of the project.  It was a wonderful collection of extremely talented design professionals we are proud to call colleagues and friends.  This was a success for the magazine, for the consumers and for the design professionals who worked on the space and with those consumers.
