Sandra Bullock’s sweet Georgia home for sale for $6.5M

Oscar winner Sandra Bullock is not only diversified when it comes to the roles she plays. Her highly successful film career has also given her the wealth to own almost any home she chooses, and she doesn’t choose like other celebrities who vie with each other to own the latest and greatest Hollywood pad.

In fact, Bullock has quietly been building a diversified real estate empire. She owns, rents out, sells and lives in homes and vacation homes from coast to coast. What many would say is one of the best is a secluded beach estate on Tybee Island, Georgia which she has owned for 18 years. A busy schedule has prevented Bullock and her two children from spending vacation time there, and she has decided to put it on the market, priced at US$6.5 million.

This property has an architecturally stunning main house and guest house on almost three acres made up of nine parcels, but also has private access to one of the prettiest white-sand beaches in the country. The estate has the capacity to sleep 12 in luxury and fun, with the large pool, games room, gym, a basketball court and private beach entrance.

Structures include the 3,360-sq.-ft. plantation-style main house with multiple screened verandas, double-height living room ceiling with beachy decor and a 2,848-sq.-ft. guest house with living room fireplace, a crow’s nest and an outdoor grill. Overall, there are seven bedrooms and six baths between the two buildings. The home is decorated with emphasis on white linen and wicker with a contemporary airy, beachy vibe and all furnishings, except for a few personal items, are included in the sale. Bullock has rented the estate as a vacation rental at US$1,400 a night with a minimum of a three-night stay.

Only 20 minutes to Savannah’s gourmet restaurants and unique shops, Bullock is selling her beach vacation compound on nearby Tybee Island, priced at $6.5 million. Co-listing agents are Ruthie Lynah Whitlow and Rachel Umreit of Celia Dunn Sotheby’s, West Charlton Street Office, Savannah.

Bruce Willis finally sells Idaho home

Latest News

Bruce Willis finally sells Idaho home

Bruce Willis has something new to remember for 2018 — the sale of the home he has had on the market since 2011. Though he bought it in 2003 for less than its final sale price of $5.5 million (U.S.) — a sales record in the Hailey, Idaho area — it was an excruciating drop from its original list price of $15 million.

In the last 15 years, Willis rebuilt the main house, added a guest house, gym, streams and ponds and paid years of property taxes, so whether he made profit, broke even or took a loss is not known. For Willis, no longer having to worry about finding a buyer or upkeep is likely worth the outcome.

No stranger to collecting exceptional real estate, Willis has been buying and selling homes for years. He has owned a number of homes in the Los Angeles area, Idaho, apartments in Manhattan and most recently purchased a mansion in Bedford, N.Y. As more and more of Hollywood’s actors segue into buying and flipping real estate, Willis is near the top of the list. In recent years, he has been gravitating towards more real estate activity on the East Coast.

Sited on 20 acres between Hailey and Ketchum on Flying Heart Lake, the Willis’ Idaho compound is completely private with thick woodlands and multiple ponds and streams. The 8,403-square-foot home is a six-bedroom, seven-bath log house with heated terraces, balconies and driveway. Inside there are vaulted ceilings, views of Flying Heart Lake and the mountains, three fireplaces and a large gourmet kitchen.

The 2,200-square-foot master suite has a fireplace and sitting area with jetted soaking tub, granite steam shower and large walk-in closet and dressing room with built-in dressers and shelving. Outside there is a resort-size heated swimming pool with waterfalls and slides. Skiing, hiking, biking, live music and theatre are only minutes away from the gated, secure property.

Since gaining his spot as one of America’s favourite actors with the five television seasons of Moonlighting, Willis has continued making popular box office films, acted on Broadway and branched into singing and recorded an album. His Die Hard trilogy of films gained him the moniker “action hero,” which will likely stay with him forever. Never slowing down — with four new films this year and three in various stages of production for 2019 with an additional one rumoured — one wonders if he ever has a chance to visit any of his lovely collection of homes.

After a decade on the market, Bruce Willis’s Idaho nature retreat has finally sold, thanks to his new hero, listing agent Travis Jones of Engel & Volkers, Ketchum, Idaho. Originally listed in 2011 for $15 million, with brokerage changes and price changes through the years, the final list price was $5.895 million and it sold for $5.495 million.

Celebrity Homes: Kathie Lee Gifford’s Key Largo mansion

Latest News

Celebrity Homes: Kathie Lee Gifford’s Key Largo mansion

Today host Kathie Lee Gifford is selling her home at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Fla., a home that she bought in 1998 with husband Frank Gifford.

Located at the northernmost part of Key Largo, Gifford’s home is convenient to Miami, Coconut Grove and exploration of the Florida Keys. A small island community unto itself, the Ocean Reef Club has been an exclusive getaway for the wealthy since its inception in 1948 as a fishing camp until it became the Ocean Reef Club in 1993.

Today, it is home to two 18-hole championship golf courses, a tidal swimming lagoon and pool, a marina, fire station and fully staffed medical centre. There is also a landing strip, a flying club, restaurants ranging from casual to formal and specialty shops. Pet owners have access to two dog parks — one for dogs under 25 pounds and the other for larger dogs. A veterinarian is also on hand.

Kathie Lee and husband, former New York Giants star and NFL TV announcer Frank Gifford, bought the waterfront house in 1998 for $3.9 million when their children were 4 and 8 years old. The Giffords roamed freely about the community, always engaging with the neighbours and always approachable. Frank had fans who would love to talk football and the whole family enjoyed taking advantage of many of the club’s amenities. This was the place they came with an entourage of family and friends to spend Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Easter. Kathie Lee has kept up much of that tradition since Frank died at age 84 in 2015.

At 11,400 square feet of air conditioned space — not counting the large screened and open areas for outdoor entertaining — the three-level house has eight bedrooms and eight baths with a main floor master suite, an elevator and stairs to the upper levels, a large and airy great room that opens seamlessly to a screened terrace with pool and spa and an outdoor kitchen convenient for romantic waterside dining.

There is a custom kitchen with pantry, media room, private gym, formal dining area and multiple casual dining locations throughout. There is a five-car garage, fire pit, boat dock and space to entertain large groups.

But the pièce de résistance is the stunning sunset views across Card Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. Gifford often talked about the sunset views on the Today show. The home was used in 2013 when she did a remote segment from the estate.

With her children now grown and with careers of their own, Gifford is selling her Key Largo waterfront vacation home for $10.5 million (U.S). The listing agent is Roberta Watson of Watson Luxury Properties, Ocean Reef Club, Key Largo, Florida.

Tom Petty

Runnin’ down a dream house

Latest News

Runnin’ down a dream house

It never occurred to Tom Petty that gathering a group of friends to play music wouldn’t make them big stars. After meeting Elvis at the age of 10, and later watching the Beatles, he knew he was meant to be a musician and approached it with laser focus. In the late 1960s at age 17, Tom put his theory into practice, adding a few more instruments to the mix and was soon on his way to stardom. Nothing deterred him or slowed him down, even the disapproval of his father who was disappointed that his son would take the artistic route rather than what he considered a more masculine sports-oriented road into adulthood.

Tom’s first band, the Epics, started out in his hometown Gainesville, Florida, playing locally between odd jobs to keep them financially afloat until they hit the big time, which he knew in his heart was just a matter of time.

The Epics evolved into Mudcrutch, a popular band at the Gainesville University of Florida area bars, but failed to get outside attention. His next band, the Heartbreakers, quickly turned things around making it to the top in 1976 with their hit song “Breakdown.” Tom and the Heartbreakers never looked back, producing classics such as “American Girl,” “Free Falling,” and “I Won’t Back Down.” It was a career that lasted over 45 years.

Music poured out of Tom Petty like a fast-moving river producing hit after hit, many used for movie theme songs and sound tracks. Just as he imagined as a young boy, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers became one of the most popular American bands in history, garnering virtually every important award in the music industry and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Petty died in October at age 66 and now his much-loved Lake Sherwood getaway near Malibu and nine miles to the Pacific Ocean is for sale. Built in 1931 with walls of local fieldstone, Petty’s retreat has mountain and water views across the natural lake from almost every room and 125-feet of shorefront. Deceptively large at 5,300 square feet, the house has three bedrooms and three baths and underwent an expansion in 2004.

The home’s rustic feel is complimented by a balcony fireplace, redwood-panelled bathroom with a stone bathtub that overlooks the lake and vaulted-beamed ceilings and fireplace in the fieldstone living room. It’s a California house with a European mountain-lake chalet vibe geared to inspire creativity from its barrel-tiled roof to its enchanting terrace.

The home also has a private deep-water dock where one can sit and dream, launch a boat, fish or swim. Located high above the fog line, the property is guaranteed bright sunshine and cool breezes. Listing agents are Dana Sparks and Amy Alcini of Compass Realty in Malibu, California.

Rock and Roll superstar Tom Petty’s fabulous Lake Sherwood retreat near Malibu is listed at $5.895 million.

A home for the Kardashians

A home for the Kardashians

Latest News

A home for the Kardashians

A Southern California home that has been seen by more TV viewers than just about any other home in recent years is for sale. Modelled after an Italian castle, Palazzo Dei Sogni has served as the fictitious home for several television shows including 10 seasons as the home of the Kardashian-Jenner family.

Palazzo Dei Sogni, which translates to Palace of Dreams, has been the vision of set designers for the HBO shows “True Blood,” “Entourage” and “Rome,” as well as for E!’s “Keeping Up with the Kardashians.” Located in Studio City in the Hollywood Hills, it has played its own starring role for up to two million viewers a week checking all the boxes for location, privacy and over-the-top opulence.

Built in 1983 and extensively remodelled in 2005, the 7,800-square-foot, seven-bedroom, eight-bath, Italianate-style residence is sited on almost an acre of meticulously kept grounds in the Fryman Estates community. Some of the neighbours include George Clooney, Miley Cyrus and Bruno Mars.

Its design, inspired by the Medici Castle in Florence, is flush with ornate woodwork, Venetian plastered walls, ceiling and wall murals by artist Giorgio Tuscani, 17th-century chandeliers in almost every room, sconces imported from the Paris Opera House and a centuries-old stone fountain.

Public areas of the mansion include a two-story foyer, formal living and dining rooms, paneled den, a screening room with 12-foot screen, a billiards room and 2,000-bottle wine cellar. Both the indoor and outdoor kitchens include Viking appliances and casual dining areas both inside and on one of the many terraces.

The very private gated and hedged grounds include rolling lawns, mature landscaping, a saltwater swimming pool with waterfall and parking for 10 cars.

Palazzo Dei Sogni, the palatial residence chosen by set designers to star as the backdrop for many hit television programs, is now for sale asking $8.995 million.

Don Rickles’ Malibu beach house priced at $8 million plus

Latest News

Don Rickles’ Malibu beach house priced at $8 million plus

After decades of abrasive stand-up comedy, acting roles in both comedy and drama movies, and contributing to making the Toy Story films huge box office successes as Mr. Potato Head, Don Rickles left the world stage at age of 90 when he passed away on April 6, 2017 at his home in Los Angeles.

Known as the King of Insult Comics and the Merchant of Venom — and one of Hollywood’s last old-guard stars — Rickles was a regular guest on late-night TV talk shows and nightclub tours that were scheduled into 2018.

Rickles drew a comparison of the feeling he got when going on stage to that of a fighter. “The bell rings and you come out and fight. My energy comes alive. And I still enjoy it,” he was quoted as saying.

Rickles put his charming beach house in the celebrity-studded enclave of Point Dume in Malibu, California, on the market shortly before his death.

From a barren-topped promontory jutting out into the Pacific Ocean at the end of Santa Monica Bay in the 1930s, to the lushly planted oasis of beach mansions today, Point Dume offers some of the best ocean views and celebrity sightings on the West Coast.

Many celebrities, who could afford to enjoy ocean life anywhere in the world, have chosen Point Dume for their home. Johnny Carson was a longtime resident, buying his beach home in 1984 for about $9.5 million; it sold two years after his death for $38 million. Other celebrity residents have included Robert Duvall, Cher, Dick Clark, Rob Lowe and Julie Andrews. One of the enclave’s most popular assets is the deeded-access private beach, which can only be entered with a homeowner’s key.

The Rickles’ 3,421-square-foot home is on one tropically landscaped acre, featuring four bedrooms and five baths. It was built in 1968, the same year he starred in The Don Rickles Show on ABC, but shows no signs of age with all of the updates, white walls and cheerful tasteful decor.

Features include wide-plank hardwood floors, large windows that stream sunlight across the rooms, a fireplace in the living room, ocean views, outdoor deck with barbecue, office and ensuite guest/staff quarters. Large grounds include a swimming pool, spa and tennis court and lawns perfect for a laid-back game of croquet. Chris Cortazzo of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Malibu holds the listing.

Jane Fonda’s Beverly Hills home priced at over $13 million

Jane Fonda’s Beverly Hills home priced at over $13 million

Two-time Oscar winner and actress extraordinaire, Jane Fonda is one of those rare versatile people who thrives and excels in all situations, whether it be in the diverse homes she chooses or the roles she plays in film or in her personal life.

From Vogue cover model, dance teacher, acclaimed Hollywood and Broadway actress and war protester, to selling over 17 million exercise videos at age 79, Fonda shows no signs of slowing down. Fonda has continued to make films and is currently co-starring with Lily Tomlin in the Netflix series Grace and Frankie.

Fonda has owned and lived in many beautiful homes over the years, from her New Mexico ranch where she lived in jeans and cowboy boots, to her sleek and sophisticated home in the Beverly Hills, Trousdale Estates, which she has recently put on the market.

Fonda purchased the property in 2012 with music producer and her former partner Richard Perry from movie director John Rich. Fonda said that she and Perry had looked at as many as 30 houses, but the moment she stepped onto this property, she knew it was the special one.

In addition to the home’s open layout and connection with the outdoors and stunning views, Fonda, having always been highly eco-conscious, was impressed with the photovoltaic electric panels, solar-heated pool, thermal glass double-glazed UV windows and bamboo floors.

The 7,100-square-foot home’s glass walls and elevator and multiple covered and open terraces create indoor/outdoor living spaces to enjoy sweeping canyon and ocean views. Though very sophisticated in its contemporary design, the home is warm and inviting with multiple spaces for entertaining.

The residence includes the main level with its dining and living rooms, butler’s pantry and bar, office and large chef’s kitchen with adjoining family room that opens to a terrace. The first floor houses the media room with a full bar, cork floors and a gym opening out to a pool terrace.

The master suite includes large walk-in closets and his-and-hers baths with steam shower, soaking tub and heated floors. In addition to the outdoor viewing pavilion with fire pit, there is yet another special place — the meditation garden. Listing agents are Jade Mills and Valerie Fitzgerald of Coldwell Banker Previews International.

Jane Fonda’s stunning contemporary home in Beverly Hills overlooking a canyon and the Pacific Ocean is listed at $12.995 million (U.S.)
