Hines Canada and Tridel achieve Toronto’s first condo LEED Platinum Certification for Aqualina at Bayside

Hines Canada and Tridel have achieved a first for a highrise condo in Toronto – LEED Platinum Certification – at the flagship residence in the master-planned Bayside Toronto Community, Aqualina at Bayside. The 13-storey project was completed in 2020.

“For twenty years, Waterfront Toronto has pursued new standards in sustainability and innovation in building complete communities,” says Meg Davis, chief development officer, Waterfront Toronto. “We are proud to have first introduced LEED environmental buildings standards to the Toronto market, which have now been adopted by developers across the Greater Toronto Area. Congratulations to Hines and Tridel for bringing the first LEED Platinum multi-unit residential highrise to Toronto. Waterfront Toronto appreciates their commitment to environmental sustainability in Bayside, and across their developments.”

Nearly a decade has passed since Hines was named the master developer of Bayside Toronto, following an international competition by Waterfront Toronto. Hines brought Canada’s leading condominium developer, Tridel, on as its exclusive residential development partner at Bayside. Aqualina was the first of the four residential projects onsite to launch, and completed occupancy last year. Intentions to pursue LEED Platinum were stated in 2017. Hines was among the earliest supporters of the LEED program in North America, having developed more than 102 million sq. ft. of LEED-Certified, pre-certified and registered properties in six countries.

Tridel has established a reputation as one of Canada’s leading environmentally-responsible, Green residential developers, earning several industry awards and distinctions for its Built Green Built for Life approach. As the largest LEED-certified highrise developer, Tridel’s condominiums comprise 25 per cent of all residential LEED projects across the GTA.

Tridel’s Director of Innovation and Sustainability, Adrian Wang, says that Platinum Certification is a significant achievement for the Bayside team. Not only does it mark a first for Toronto, but Aqualina is the second highrise multi-residential project in all of Canada to achieve the designation.

“It’s a remarkable accomplishment, and especially gratifying to achieve LEED Platinum as a condominium residence,” says Wang. “Energy conservation is a crowning feature of Aqualina and the entire Bayside Community. Our collective efforts translate to a healthier, more sustainable community for residents and the city, and the financial savings are passed on to our purchasers. Because of our site-wide approach at Bayside, we’re well positioned to replicate our success at Aquavista, Aquabella and Aqualuna.”

The LEED Canada, Green Building Rating System revolves around key parameters spanning a range of factors, including: Sustainable sites, materials and resources, water efficiency, design innovation, indoor environmental quality, energy and atmosphere and regional priority. Among the innovations contributing to Aqualina’s Platinum Certification are a site-wide water filtration system, sustainable procurement practices and discerning material choices. All LEED certifications are administered by the Canadian Green Building Council.

Hines and Tridel introduce their new condo offering luxury and lifestyle by the lake

Imagine your mornings spent overlooking the lake, as sunlight dances over the water. Picture yourself surrounded by friends and family on the terrace enjoying drinks at sunset, the views unparalleled.

This is lakeside living at its finest – a rare opportunity to revel in the relaxed, urban lifestyle available to the residents at Aqualuna. Located at Queens Quay East and Lower Sherbourne, Aqualuna is the final phase of the master-planned Bayside Toronto community by Hines and Tridel. Featuring an architecturally stunning exterior of cascading terraces, Aqualuna is truly a crowning achievement, redefining luxury by the lake.

Inspired by the lake below, the wave-like terrace and balcony design for Aqualuna is the result of masterful geometric planning and a stunning blend of amenities and aesthetic. And nowhere is that more on display than in the exquisitely designed Terrace Collection.

Integral to the design of the Terrace Collection suites, was an expansive view of the waterfront and the city skyline. In response, the celebrated architects of Danish firm 3XN twisted the peaks of the two towers ever so slightly, allowing each to front onto the water, and for the angled facades to look past one another.

Due to the unique architectural shape of the towers, the majority of the floorplan designs in the Terrace Collection at Aqualuna are one-of-a-kind. The luxurious suites allow for ample natural light and are designed perfectly for entertaining, both indoors and out. The suite interiors range from 1,807 square feet to 4,622 square feet, and are available in a mix of two- and three-bedroom layouts, many with the option of a den.

But it’s the outdoor space that earns the terrace suites the distinction of being Aqualuna’s hallmark collection. Most suites feature multiple outdoor spaces in a mix of balcony and terrace options, with some terrace areas totaling up to 1,683 square feet.

And while the Terrace Collection delivers on elegance and luxury, the high quality of living doesn’t end at the front door of the suite. Aqualuna’s two luxurious lobbies are beautifully appointed, and the sixth floor amenities are first class; these sophisticated spaces allow residents to entertain alongside an outdoor terrace, complete with pool.

Bayside Toronto’s award-winning mixed-use community has clearly defined the future of lakeside living in Toronto. And Aqualuna’s arrival on the edge of the community, with the water gracing it on two sides, is the exclusive opportunity for which Torontonians have been waiting. Aqualuna elevates the everyday to the extraordinary, and the Terrace Collection truly redefines luxury by the lake.

Visit the Presentation Centre, located at 261 Queens Quay East. The Presentation Centre is open Monday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and from noon to 6 p.m. weekends; closed Fridays.

The Grand Finale to Bayside Toronto by Hines and Tridel makes stunning statement on Toronto’s waterfront

Wake up to the sun shining as it rises over the lake. Stroll down the waterfront promenade with an ice cream or go paddle boarding along the shore. Take in a beautiful sunset as you entertain friends from your private terrace. And fall asleep gazing at the city’s sparkling skyline. This is life at Bayside.

For years downtown Toronto has been synonymous with the CN Tower, surrounded by an urban core of gleaming towers of steel and glass, with buildings stretching 40, 60 and 80 storeys into the sky. But the greatest cities of North America, the truly great ones, don’t just look inwards and upwards.

New York. Chicago. Vancouver. Miami. Even Seattle, all have truly great urban environments looking out onto the waterfront, offering tranquil views onto Lake Michigan, the Atlantic or the Pacific oceans.

No stranger to this concept, Toronto has also realized the greatness that can be found at the edge of Lake Ontario, at Toronto’s beautiful waterfront. Undoubtedly, the most stunning, luxurious mixed-use, master- planned community along the lake is Bayside Toronto, by Hines and Tridel, in collaboration with Waterfront Toronto.

The award-winning developers have completely transformed the East Bayfront neighbourhood with the 13-acre Bayside Toronto Community. With three phases already in the market in varying stages of occupancy and construction, Hines and Tridel have just launched Aqualuna, the ultra-luxurious, grand finale to this dynamic and exciting community at Queens Quay East and Lower Sherbourne.

Designed by the internationally-acclaimed Danish architecture firm 3XN, Aqualuna boasts sweeping terraces and balconies that cascade down the building landscape, framed by two towers with a valley in between. The iconic towers and their terraces are angled to maximize views of the water, and encourage outdoor experiences, to relax or entertain on the spacious private terraces.

Toronto’s award-winning II by IV Design will create the interior design at Aqualuna, and the landscape architecture will be designed by Janet Rosenberg & Studio. This team will work to enhance 3XN’s decision to place the building’s shared amenities within the building’s “valley”, creating a perfect oasis where the indoor and outdoor amenities interact, with the amenity terrace overlooking Parliament Slip to the east and Lake Ontario to the southwest.

Anchoring the eastern edge of the Bayside community, Aqualuna will have some of the best views of the lake. This luxury residence will feature 225 luxurious condominium suites, available in three distinct collections (Urban, Lakeside and Terrace), ranging in size from 821 square feet to 4,622 square feet.

Aqualuna is the grand finale to the mixed-use, master-planned Bayside Toronto waterfront community by Hines and Tridel.

Don’t miss the last opportunity to live in luxury on the lake. Visit the Presentation Centre, located at 261 Queens Quay East. For further information visit the website.
