Hester van Overbeek’s recipe for these six adorable Chalk Paint decorated concrete planters for your succulents will spruce up your home this spring and summer. These handmade planters look great on your windowsill and also make lovey, unique gifts. Full instructions for van Overbeek’s easy step-by-step guide to make and paint your own concrete pots with Chalk Paint can be viewed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_QxGNxUz3mk&feature=youtu.be

For this project, you will need:

  • Chalk Paint
  • Empty plastic food containers
  • Concrete mix and water
  • Annie Sloan Sanding Pads
  • Annie Sloan Lacquer

Use any colour from the Chalk Paint palette on your concrete pots. Hester suggests using stronger pigments for the best look and using a bit of cooking spray on the outside of your inner mold to get the pots out easily.

If you want a shiny finish, apply Chalk Paint Lacquer all over your planter. A bit of lacquer on the inside of the planter where your plant will be potted also helps stop the concrete from drawing water out of the potting earth.
